Description
A lioness carved in the round with a cub held against her body, one forepaw resting on a carved brocade ball. Figure and base are cut from the same block. This is the female of a pair: the male, with the ball alone under his paw, is listed separately.
The mane and the cub’s coat are cut as flowing scrollwork, and the surface keeps the marks of the chisel. The gallery photographs show the piece from several angles, including one taken with a measuring rule in frame.
Dimensions: 20 cm wide × 23 cm high / 7.9 in wide × 9.1 in high. Est. weight 10–12 kg (22–26 lb). Weight is an estimate from volume and stone density, not a scale reading.
