Description
A lion carved in the round in a crouched, reclining pose, lying on a rectangular slab that is cut from the same block of stone. Unlike a seated guardian lion, the body is held low and stretched forward, with one forepaw drawn in front of the chest and the head resting close to the base.
The mane is cut as continuous scrollwork running back over the shoulders. Tool marks are left visible across the surface, which has a mottled grey-green tone that shifts with the light. The gallery photographs show the piece from several angles, including one taken with a measuring rule in frame.
Dimensions: 14.5 × 7.5 × 9.5 cm (L × W × H) / 5.7 × 3.0 × 3.7 in. Est. weight 1.3–1.6 kg (2.9–3.5 lb). Weight is an estimate from volume and stone density, not a scale reading.
